- Course objectives
- The main objectives of the course are making students aware of relations between 19th century Spanish literature and other European literatures.

- Spanish novel in the context of European realistic novel.
- Spanish Realistic novel and costumbrism.
- Fernán Caballero: La gaviota.
- First realists: Juan Valera, José María de Pereda.
- Benito Pérez Galdós.
- Later realists: Armando Palacio Valdés.
- Spanish naturalism: Leopoldo Alas Clarín, Emilia Pardo Bazán.

- Credit is obtained for attendance and active participation in the course (min. 80 %) and after successfully completing a final test (success rate 60 %) where students prove their capability to connect theoretical knowledge with the analysis and interpretation of literary texts.
