Course objectives
At the end of the course the student will carry out quantitative research by questionnaire. As part of this activity a student compare the benefits and limits of quantitative research against the qualitative one and compare different quantitative research methods; propose a methodology questionnaire; build a research tool in the form of a questionnaire; compute basic statistical values from the data set; interpret the results of the research and write a research report.
Syllabus
  • Repetition of research basics, comparison of qualitative and quantitative research.
  • Logic of quantitative research, validity and reliability, the research goal and research questions. Research questions, hypotheses, variables and their operationalization.
  • Creating a questionnaire.
  • Population, research sample and data collection.
  • Coding of uncategorized data, cleaning data file.
  • Frequency domain analysis, classification of the 1st degree, graphs.
  • Central values, standard deviations, confidence intervals.
  • Creation of new variables: recoding, counting, sorting values.
  • Contingency tables.
  • Research report.
  • Other methods of quantitative research.

Assessment methods
Individual tasks - it is necessary to accompish all 10 tasks, there is a point penalty for the late submission. Final written exam - 60% of the best result is needed to pass the exam.
