- Course objectives
- The course is focused on knowledge of the church, political and cultural history of Europe from the beginning of the 16th to the end of the 18th centuries. Based on a commented analysis of the sources accompanied by an interpretation, the students are acquainted with the crucial factors, which influenced the development of the European lands in a fundamental way (primarily the Russian Empire, France, Germany and the Habsburg Monarchy. Special emphasis will be placed on the role of culture and art, on recognizing the differences between Eastern and Western Europe and on an awareness of the shared characteristics and values to the Christian basis of mature Europe.
- Learning outcomes
- After completion of the course, the students will be able to:
- understand the development of Eastern Europe in the Early Modern Period, to understand the issue of the development of the most important European state in the period of absolutism
- orient oneself in the development of the period political thought
- characterize the similarities and differences in the development of Eastern and Western Europe - Syllabus
