The course is offered to students of any study field.
Course objectives
In this subject we will work on Catalan syntax . The main objective of the subject is to provide students with a description of the Catalan syntax, taking into account the way how some universal linguistic principles manifest in this language.
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, the student will be able to: 1. Analyze various syntactic phenomena appropriately and arguably. 2. Reflect on the Catalan language, taking into account the linguistic variation and the relation of Catalan with other languages.

  • 1. Syntax: concepts and theoretical foundations
  • 2. Categories and syntactic functions
  • 3. Phrase structure: movements and general principles of syntactic relationships
  • 5. Verb phrase: argument structure, adjuncts and other verbal modifiers
  • 6. Nonverbal predication
  • 7. Noun phrase: argument structure and other complements
  • 8. Adjective phrase
  • 9. Structure of other categories
  • 9. The sentence: modality and analysis 10. Complex sentences: coordination and subordination
