- Course objectives
- In the course of their studies, students are required to read particular texts, both Latin and translated ones. Their ability to understand the original texts, read and interpret them correctly is tested within the course Reading for teacher training and the final state examination(C. Plinius Secundus, L. Annaeus Seneca, S. Propertius, Albius Tibullus, C. Valerius Catullus, Cornelius Tacitus, Q. Horatius Flaccus, Isidor of Sevilla, Carmina Burana, Caesarius of Heisterbach, Jan Ámos Komenský).
- Learning outcomes
- The students should be able to understand, translate selected passages (see Course Contents) from C. Plinius Secundus, L. Annaeus Seneca (the philosopher), S. Propertius, Albius Tibullus, C. Valerius Catullus, Isidor of Sevilla, the collection Carmina Burana, Caesarius of Heisterbach, Jan Ámos Komenský, comment on their linguistic characteristics and historical context. Their familiarity with the Czech translations of particular Latin works is also tested (see Course Contents).

- Teaching methods
- The course is not regularly taught during the semester. Individual reading of selected passages, use of dictionaries and other tools, and, if necessary, consultation with the teacher.
- Assessment methods
- The knowledge of the texts is tested by translating selected passages into Czech and commenting on their linguistic features and historical and social context. The examination is oral, students have time for preparing the translation. Examination takes place in the examination period as well as during the semester (in the latter case, it is necessary to make appointment personally or by e-mail).
