Course objectives
The aim of the course is to acquaint students with the issues of multimedia and digital technologies, including practical use in working with people with special educational needs (SEN) – individuals in need of support. The focus will be on the basic terminological definition of special educational needs, the system of support measures and special education, including follow-up care directed at adults with an emphasis on the important role of multimedia. Practical demonstrations will focus on “smart” touch technologies (tablets, iPads, interactive boards) and their appropriate deployment in individual interventions and group work with people with SEN. Attention will also be paid to other special digital aids. The aim is to gain not only theoretical knowledge, but also practical skills in the use of multimedia, to become acquainted with the limits of their selection according to specified criteria and the possibilities of adapting them to individual needs. And also to learn to use multimedia as a natural part of both education and everyday life.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- describe the current system of supporting individuals with SEN and the system of special education;
- identify and summarize the importance of multimedia in the educational system of special education and subsequent special pedagogical care;
- identify and summarize important multimedia selection criteria for people with SEN;
- describe the factors that influence the choice of device and the choice of appropriate content (including the possibilities of individual adaptation);
