- Course objectives
- The lecture provides information on the historical development of seals and coats of arms, and their classification and typology. It describes the fundamental attributes of seals and coats of arms (royal, aristocratic, ecclesiastic and municipal), and explains the essential concepts in genealogy. Students can learn about the most important researchers in these disciplines. The seminars focus on the practical handling of the exact description of the seals, the safe handling of the principles of coats of arms when using the appropriate heraldic terminology, as well as for the determination of unknown coats of arms, individual projects with genealogical sources, particularly with individual types of matrices.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course, students will be able to use the information about the falsification of seals in the Middle Ages, the development of Christian and Jewish matrices - to create a print of the seal - to understand and explain the development of the Czech royal Přemyslid sigillography - to use this information practically for contemporary communal, regional and civic heraldry.

- The evaluation will be based on a short written work focusing on questions relating to sigillography, heraldry and genealogy. There will be an assessment in the form of a colloquium, which will include an analysis of the work and additional questions on the topic.
