Course objectives
The aim of this course is to finish an advanced draft of the dissertation which will undergo an internal peer-review in the following semester in the framework of the course RLDP PhD Thesis in the Study of Religions. At the end of this course, students will be able to:
  • work with sources (datasets) and literature;
  • analyse the collected data;
  • write an extensive and very good academic text;
  • understand and express the current state of research into the selected topic and the place the outcomes of the dissertation project hold in the current debate;
  • assess critically diverse previous approaches to the researched topic;
  • formulate well-founded conclusions.
  • Syllabus
    • Analysis of data / sources.
    • Consultations with the supervisor (alternatively also with the designated consultant).
    • Submitting finished and proof-read parts of the dissertation to the supervisor and getting his/her feedback.
    • At least three corrections of the resulting text.
    • Submission of the advanced draft in the IS MU.

    Teaching methods
    Consultations with the supervisor (alternatively also with the designated consultant); addressing oral and written feedback to the drafts of individual parts of the dissertation.
    Assessment methods
    Consultations (30 percent); submission of an advanced draft of the dissertation, evaluated by the supervisor and by the course coordinator (70 percent). The advanced draft has to contain all parts of the dissertation including footnotes, bibliography, and summary in the language of the dissertation (the English summary and English keywords may be added later). The draft has to be polished from the point of view of language, style, methodology, and the state of the art, and ready for the internal peer-review.
