- The topic of the Master’s thesis will be appointed personally with a teacher employed full-time at the department. The topic must be assigned no later than before the start of the 3rd semester of the Master’s degree programme. A prerequisite is the previous completion of AEM_07a Master's Seminar I. It is possible to simultaneously enrol in AEM_07b Master's Seminar II. The topic of the thesis is registered in IS MU. The topic can only be registered in the first half of the semester; after the deadline, registration is closed until the beginning of the next semester.

- Course objectives
- Master’s thesis should demonstrate the ability of the graduand to treat a partial scholarly issue of (Central) European archaeology at an adequate professional level. Requirements: original methodological approach to the selected topic, professional documentation, complete bibliography on the topic, and a formally acceptable written output.
- Learning outcomes
- The outcome is a completed and submitted Master's thesis, whose contentual and formal level, ethics and originality meet the standards of a university degree thesis.
- Syllabus
- The course is only intended for elaboration of the Master’s thesis:
- Formulation of the topic, main problems to be addressed and structure of the thesis.
- Heuristics and retrieval of data, their formal processing and criticism.
- Analysis and evaluation of material artefacts, if necessary.
- Elaboration of graphic supplements.
- Analysis and synthesis of data.
- Conclusions and interpretations.
- Continuous consultation of the work progress, achieved results and problems.
- Completion and submission of the thesis.
- Literature
- Further literature for the diploma thesis is assigned on an individual basis based on the topic of the thesis. | (in Czech) Literatura pro diplomovou práci je předepsána individuálně podle tématu práce.
- Teaching methods
- Student elaborates by oneself the Master’s thesis and consults the work continuously with his/her thesis supervisor.
- Assessment methods
- Submission of the completed Master’s thesis. The thesis advisor confirms the approval of the completed thesis for defence by awarding the course-unit credit. Graded evaluation of the thesis is subject of defence and is based on assessments by the opponent and the thesis advisor.

The course is taught each semester.
General note: Magisterskou diplomovou práci je třeba zpracovat na schválené téma v patřičné kvalitě a rozsahu (nejméně 120 stran teoretického textu). Pro magisterskou diplomovou prácio platí ustnovení čl. 8 Studijního a zkušebního řádu FF MU.

- The prescribed length of the textual part of the Master’s thesis is 140,000 characters (including spaces). The scope includes the text itself, notes and table of contents. The text of the thesis does not include a catalogue, a list of objects, or a list of literature. The citation standard is governed by the customs of the discipline, it will be specified by the thesis supervisor if necessary. The contentual originality of the work is one of the assessment criteria. Non-original and adapted texts, or other contentual parts of the work without corresponding references, or parts prepared by a person other than the submitting student may be the reason for non-acceptance of the work.
The finished and complete Master’s thesis must be submitted to the archive of the Master’s thesis in IS and in two copies to the department’s secretariat no later than 30 November (autumn semester) or 30 April or 30 June (spring semester). Theses submitted later will automatically be postponed for assessment in the next examination period.
