Course objectives
Exam is diveded into three parts - one written and two oral: Written exam is testing knowledge of theory and history of theatre in range of bacherol level of education. Evaluation of level of written word according to current gramatic and stylistic rules of Czech (or Slovakian) language is also part of examination. Second part consists of oral defendof bachelor thesis, if student is graduating DTS as maior or completus. Third part is oral analytic part, which is testing skills of academic analysis of performance chosen by draw in its cultural and historical context.
Learning outcomes
After completing Bachelor's state exam is student able to:
- think about problems including theatre in the broadest sense and in complex circumstances (politics, social, aesthetic);
- orientate his/herself in czech and world history of drama and theatre and in theatrological and methodological approaches towards it;
- orientate his/herself in contemporary theatre context;
- analyse theatre performance as social and political phenomena in all of his traits: structure, message, style, genre etc.;
- search for relevant information and do quality recherche of given theatrical period or theatrical production;
- use methodological approaches to complete the Bachelor thesis.
Syllabus
  • Exam is divided into three parts - one written and two oral:
  • 1)First, written exam is testing knowledge of theory and history of theatre in range of bacherol level of education. Evaluation of level of written word according to current gramatic and stylistic rules of Czech (or Slovakian) language is also part of examination. Duration of exam is max. 120 minutes.
  • Student can accede to oral exam only, if he/she passed written part.
  • 2) Second part consists of oral defendof bachelor thesis, if student is graduating DTS as maior or completus. Student will present his/her bachelor thesis in 5 - 10 minutes (Power point presentation is not required). Supervisor and opponent will read their assessments. Student will react to comments included in their assessments and/or will answer completing question either inscluded in assessments or layed by other members fo the commitee.
  • 3) Third part is oral analytic part, which is testing skills of academic analysis of performance chosen by draw in its cultural and historical context. Analyzed performance will be chosen from main events of theory and history of theatre or from main cultural events with theatrological features. This part of the exam wants to test student's ability to preciselly express his/her thoughts and the ability to aplly theoretical knowledge during academic analysis. Student's aim is to speak competently, eruditly and as complex as possible about chosen event. Commitee is allowed to ask question during student's speech.
  • Chosen piece is represented by, for example:
  • - part of dramatic text;
  • - photography of audiovisual part of performance or event;
  • - photography of scenography or theatrical architecture;
  • - photography of archival document;
  • - visual or audiovisual sample representing act of perfomativity;
  • - sample or main theses of given theoretical text considered canonical;
  • - photo of important personaity of theatre or theatrology;
  • - photo of important event of history of theatre culture;
  • - photo or model of important theatrical artefact.
  • Defence of bachelor thesis is not part of Bachelor's state exam in minor programme.
