Course objectives
The course follows ESA108 and continues with the same textbook for lessons 11 - 20. By the end of the semester, students should know adjectives and adverbs of 3rd declension, futurum I of all conjugations, nouns of 4th and 5th declension, participles and numerals. Again, they will learn more about Latin literature based on the texts in the textbook. By the end of the semester, students should be able to translate short simple texts with a dictionary; this will be practiced continuously throughout the semester.The course will include self-study of selected texts translated from Latin into Czech (Ovid, Virgil).
Learning outcomes
After passing the course the student will be able to: - translate basic Latin text with dictionary - aplication of basic Latin grammar - speak about some chosen text of Latin litarature (read in Czech translation) - extension of knowledge of Latin literature

Teaching methods
Interpretation of grammatical phenomena, vocabulary and Roman literature, students then do homework (translations, exercises from the textbook, information search). Interpretation of selected texts, discussion.
Assessment methods
A written test on the material covered is aimed at testing the students' knowledge. Successful completion is based on a minimum of 50 percent pass rate. The test consists of translating Latin sentences from Latin into English, determining the grammatical categories of verbs, converting sentences from the passive to the active voice or vice versa, converting sentences from the singular to the plural or vice versa, grading adjectives and adverbs, and eliciting nouns and adjectives. Czech questions on reading selected translations are included (15-20 questions).

The course can be taken without attendance, by self-study. However, a written test is required at the end of the semester.
