- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to deepen the knowledge of French and to develop the vocabulary and communicative competence (level B1 CEFR).
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
understand the main points (conversation, media) of clear standard speech concerning familiar topics;
understand texts in a common language;
enter unprepared into conversation on topics of personal interest or concerning everyday life (eg family, hobbies, work, travel and current events);
explain her/his opinions and plans;
write simple coherent text on familiar topics, as well as personal letters describing experiences and impressions. - Syllabus
- COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
- 1. Offer to do something.
- 2. Respond to a request.
- 3. Organize a speech.
- 4. Interact on the phone. Accuse, deny.
- 5. Interact by letter. Complain, protest.
- 6. Expressing cause, consequence.
- 7. Express hypothesis, condition.
- LANGUAGE SKILLS:
- 1. Past tenses (review)
- 2. Demonstrative and interrogative pronouns. Personal pronouns and en/y.
- 3. Adverbs. Negation. Emphasis.
- 4. Articles (definite, indefinite, partitive)
- 5. The passive voice.
- 6. The present/past conditional. The hypothetical sentences.
- 7. Reported speech. The sequence of tenses.

- Teaching methods
- All the basic methods of CLT programme (Communicative Language Teaching)are used: individual, pair, group activities (conversation, practice, drill). Listening exercices. Homework.
- Assessment methods
- Final exam:
I. Written test (grammar, vocabulary, translation), min. 70%.
II. Oral part will examine the ability to express him/herself on a specific topic and to interact with examiner.
Submission of four written translations and four essays before the end of semester is obligatory (see ELF).
