Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop students' skills in translating specialized texts from German to Czech and vice versa. Students will learn to work with different types of specialized texts (legal, technical, scientific, etc.), acquire terminological analysis, and strategies to ensure the adequacy of the translation in the specific field. By the end of the course, students will complete the translation of a specialized text and prepare a critical reflection on their work.
Learning outcomes
Ability to analyze and critically interpret specialized texts in German and Czech. Mastery of translation techniques in specialized translation from and into German. Ability to accurately use specialized terminology and find equivalents in various fields. Ability to adapt the translation style to the specific type of text and its audience. Completion of a translation of a specialized text and its defense.

  • Introduction to the theory and practice of specialized translation Typology of specialized texts and their specifics Working with specialized terminology and its translation Translation of legal, technical, and scientific texts Translation of economic and medical texts Workshop: analysis and discussion of specialized translations Practical exercises: translation of a specialized text from German Practical exercises: translation of a specialized text into German Individual consultations on the final translation Final presentation and defense of the translation
