Course objectives
To test basic language skills and basic theoretical knowledge of French history, culture, literature, and linguistics.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- understand a short recording in French and summarize the main ideas and define key concepts
- identify and describe the main features of contemporary French society based on a text from the French press, summarizing the main ideas and arguments;
- identify and summarise the main features of the main periods of French history and literature;
- analyse a short press text from a linguistic point of view (morphosyntactic analysis);

Assessment methods
The exam consists of 2 parts:
1) Written part (essay or commentary on a literary text). 2) Oral part (analysis and commentary on the text from a linguistic and literary point of view).
