Course objectives
The course is conceived in accordance with the current strategic documents of librarianship and educational policies, including abroad, and reflects the growing importance of education and information in the information society, whose functioning at the individual level is significantly influenced by the amount of information and the expansion of technologies, which brings both positive and negative consequences. The educational content and aims of the subject are both theoretical and application level given by the need of pedagogical-didactic foundations, which should be acquired by the student of the field of Information and Library Studies in preparation for the profession of a librarian or an information worker. The complex educational content of the course has links to optional subjects of the curriculum.
Goals in the theoretical plane:
- clarify the wider perspective of foreign and Czech information policies, educational and strategic documents and models on information education and information literacy for different target groups in formal and non-formal education;
Goals in the application plane:
- to pass pedagogical-didactic abilities to conceive, guide and evaluate educational programs developing broad information literacy in the context of the field and with a view to supporting lifelong learning not only in the library environment.
Learning outcomes
After completing the subject student:
- gaining knowledge and understanding of models and concepts of 21st century literacy;
- analyzes the key strategic documents of education policy, librarianship and information literacy;
- knows and analytically reflects in particular evaluation studies in the field of information education
- know and model the pedagogical-didactic frameworks for the implementation of information education for various target groups in formal, non-formal learning and inclusive design;
- can write an essay on information literacy and its education
- understands the concept of a learning librarian - can comprehensively design educational programs developing broad information literacy in various information society environments
