- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to introduce students to 250 kanji characters beyond the scope of the mandatory courses Japanese Script I-III. It seeks to provide them with both active and passive knowledge, enhancing their ability to navigate and understand Japanese texts and improving their written expression skills.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completing this course, the student will be able to:
- Read and understand vocabulary containing kanji characters from the corpus of 250 characters taught in this course
- Write the 250 characters taught in this course
- Comprehend and interpret the learned characters in the context of their common usage

- The course builds on the subject Japanese Script III, and its syllabus is based on textbooks from the Basic Kanji Book series, which are used in the previous script courses.

- Teaching methods
- The course is conducted 90% online. In-person meetings are expected only for the initial orientation, a mid-semester progress test, and the final examination, which will be held in person. Students will have access to information about the characters for each week in the e-learning environment, including vocabulary and example sentences. They will complete mandatory homework assignments within the set deadlines, which will provide feedback on their progress.
- Assessment methods
- The final grade consists of 20% from the mid-semester progress test and 70% from the final test at the end of the semester. Students will earn 10% of the points for ongoing online tests with an unlimited number of attempts.
