- Course objectives
- The aim of the course is to make the students familiar with main traditional as well as modern, alternative approaches used in Indo-European studies in general and in the analysis of the grammatical development of Greek.
- Learning outcomes
- At the end of the course the students will know the principles and ultimate origins of individual grammatical categories. They will be able to describe the grammatical development of Greek from its Indo-European roots up to the Classical period with the help of various methods of historical and historical-comparative linguistics. They will comprehend the development of nominal and verbal categories.

- 1. Indo-European ablaut and its role in Greek morphology.
- 2. Parts of speech, the question of their origins and classification.
- 3. Grammatical categories and the question of their origins.
- 4. Nominal grammatical categories.
- 5. Verbal grammatical categories.
- 6. Development and classification of Greek nouns.
- 7. Development and classification of Greek adjectives, comparison of adjectives.
- 8. Development and classification of Greek pronouns and adverbs.
- 9. Development and classification of Greek numerals.
- 10. Development and classification of function words in Greek.
- 11. Development and classification of Greek verbs.
- 12. Nominal forms of verbs.
