Course objectives
By means of short stories by current author we provide an overview of Dutch and Flemish literature of the 21th century. Each week, students read and analyze one or more stories, which are discussed during class.
In addition, practical language exercises at B1 level are offered, which are in line with the vocabulary and themes covered in the stories. The emphasis is on reading and speaking skills, but writing and listening tasks will be provided as well. On the basis of frequency lists (the 5000 most frequent words in Dutch), a number of words are selected from the texts that the students learn and consolidate.
In this course, practical language skills and literature go hand in hand. The aim is not only that students acquire knowledge about contemporary Dutch literature in all its diversity, but also that they work on their dutch language skills.
