Course objectives
The aim of the course is to introduce students to the problems of the professional language from the perspective of linguistic and translatological in theory and practice.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course students will theoretically be able to identify and classify the text in the system of the specialized language and to analyze it. They will be familiarized with the tools for translating the professional language and will gain further practical competencies necessary to master a professional translation.
Syllabus
  • Classification of professional language, text types; Grammatical characteristics of the professional language; The status of the professional language in terms of varieties and styles; Lexical and semantic characteristics of the professional language; Terminology and Terminology; Syntactic specifics of the specialized language; Professional language and text; Lexicography and professional language; At the core of this seminar is the introduction of the specifics of translation of professional texts, work with examples of legal texts (available models of legal documents) and technical focus (instructions for use). The output will be a portfolio of translations of small official documents, contract designs and other expert texts (manuals, etc.)
