Course objectives
The main objective of this course is to improve students' speaking and conversation skills. In addition, attention is paid to comprehension and listening skills, vocabulary and grammar, and students are made aware of language variation, for instance the Belgian-Dutch informal colloquial language.
Learning outcomes
Students can speak and conduct conversations at level B2. See "can-do statements" CEFR.

  • Various speech acts are being prectised, such as giving advice and discussing. Various themes are being dealt with, some of which students chose themselves.

Teaching methods
Interactive, student-oriented seminars with different type of exercises, such as discussions and role plays.
In preparation of the classes, students read articles, watch videos, or listen to podcasts.
Assessment methods
Active cooperation and max. 1 absence.
Preparing homework assignments.
Speaking and conversation tasks during the semester.
