The Professional Practice I should be completed after students have passed the basic vocational courses and are familiar with the opportunities for their employment in the labor market.

Course objectives
The objectives of the internship are: (1) to provide students with the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills (theoretical insights, methods, procedures, and ethical standards) gained during academic studies in a real work environment, (2) to support further development of professional competence and skills for working in various types of institutions and organizations, (3) to offer students experience with the practical performance of the profession and encourage them to reflect on this experience, (4) to foster students’ professional identification and career development by helping them clarify their role in the labor market. (5) A partial goal is to guide students in reflecting on their work experiences, self-reflection, and practical familiarization with supervision.

Students choose their internship in an institution according to their preferences or field of study (professional focus). These may include educational institutions, non-profit organizations, government agencies (e.g., child care departments, the Czech Employment Office), educational or resocialization facilities, etc.
Learning outcomes
Through the professional internship, we create space for students to:
- understand the main aspects of the operation and functioning of the selected institution,
- know the job description and attributes of workers in selected professions (leisure educator, social worker, educator, teaching assistant),
- be able to participate in leading educational, preventive, and socialization activities,
- based on their own experience, reflect on the specifics of the target groups of clients of the selected organization,
- be able to identify ethical dilemmas faced by workers in selected professions (social worker, counselor, educator, leisure educator),
- evaluate the benefits of the internship for their professional growth and propose a plan for their further professional development.
Syllabus
  • After the initial meeting with the internship supervisor, where all matters related to the internship will be clarified, the student contacts an institution according to their focus/choice and facilitates the signing of an internship agreement between the Department of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, and the selected institution.
  • 2. Familiarization with the tasks of the internship (legislative conditions for the operation of the institution/provided services, documentation of the institution and direct work with clients, preparation for one’s own activity with clients (leading an activity), leading or organizing an activity/client work, ethical dilemmas in educational/social/counseling work (case analysis). Detailed assignments of individual tasks are published in the electronic study support of the course (ELF).
  • 3. Internship at the selected institution. During the internship, the student completes individual tasks (see point 2) and, based on feedback from the internship supervisor at the selected institution, expands their knowledge and develops their skills.
  • 4. Completion of a supervision group and final reflection on the internship (based on students' portfolios and completed tasks with teachers from the Department of Educational Sciences, Faculty of Arts, Masaryk University, and possibly some representatives of the internship supervisors from the institutions).
