- Course objectives
- The course focuses on the practical aspects of field social work in various contexts and with different target groups. The aim of the course is to familiarize students with practical methods and techniques used in contacting and working with target groups in their natural environments. The course will guide students through the role and responsibilities of a field social worker in specific situations. It also addresses the performance of social activities within social services in the profession of field social worker and the scope of their activities. Legislation, economics (fundraising), planning, evaluation, and supervision are topics related to the provision of social services in the Czech Republic, which also form the content of the course. Through project presentations and model situations, students will be introduced to the specifics, challenges, and potential risks of field social work, as well as ethical approaches when working with clients in their natural environment.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completing the course, the student will be able to: Navigate methods and conceptual approaches in field social work; Apply experiences from practice or research studies in field social work; Recognize and assess the relationship between theory and practice; Develop projects on assigned topics in field social work; Apply theoretical principles to practical problems in field social work.
- Syllabus
- Field social work in the context of the law; social prevention services (Act No. 108/2006 Coll., on Social Services and Decree No. 505/2006 Coll.).
- 2. Specifics and basic principles of field social work, methods of field social work.
- 3. Target groups - detailed analysis of individual groups.
- 4. The streetwork method.
- 5. Low-threshold facilities for children and youth - job description, differences from other types of facilities.
- 6. Field programs - field social work with individuals at risk of addiction, individuals providing sexual services for remuneration, individuals experiencing homelessness.
- 7. Field social work in socially excluded areas.
- 8. Social activation services and their activities.
- 9. Current issues in field social work; activities of selected (non-governmental non-profit) organizations.
- 10. Graffiti and field social work with its creators.
- 11. Personal assistance and caregiving services; early care.
