Prerequisites
Reliability! It is essential for the success of the entire course that you come prepared to the four debates in which you and your team will actively participate. If you do not come, you will cancel one whole class. Furthermore, the ability to understand the Czech language and the willingness to use resources appropriate to the academic style are important.

The format of the course includes exactly five teams of three members each. Priority will be given to upper year students when enrolling in the course.

Course objectives
The aim of the course is to develop students' practical persuasion skills.
Learning outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:
- construct and present an appropriate persuasive statement
- identify and describe the criteria of rational persuasion
- recognise and use appropriate means of persuasion

  • 10 debates in Karl Popper format

Assessment methods
each team completes four debates; the two lowest scoring teams complete a fifth debate at the end of the semester; the lowest scoring team members then submit a persuasive essay
