- The student has a theoretical basis obtained in the high school study level of biology, chemistry and physics. The student understands basic biophysical, chemical and biochemical laws. The student is able to connect the acquired knowledge in other parallel disciplines such as biological sciences, neurosciences and psychophysiology.

- Course objectives
- After completing the course Physiology of the Nervous System, the student knows the structure and function of the nervous system - from the cellular level, through the function of individual sections and their interconnections, to the biological basis of higher brain activity (eg memory, emotions, speech). Within the individual chapters, students will know the pathophysiological mechanism of selected diseases of the nervous system.
- Learning outcomes
- The student knows and is able to describe the basic physiological processes at the cellular level such as electrical signals, neurotransmitters and synaptic transmission. The student is able to describe the general anatomy of the nervous system. The student is able to explain the neurobiological processes that are the basis of both special sensors (touch, smell, taste and sight) and sensors of internal processes of the organism. The student is able to explain the processes involving motor control, knows the important pathways transmitting sensory and motor information. The student is able to describe the neurobiological nature of processes such as sleep, attention, learning, memory and emotions. The student knows and is able to define the basic methodologies used in the examination of the nervous system. The student is able to explain the nature of some diseases of the nervous system such as unconsciousness, epilepsy, spinal cord injury, multiple sclerosis, ataxia or aphasia.

- The final written test consists of 10 questions of different types (single choice, multiple choice, assignment, open-ended questions). You need to achieve at least 60% of points to succeed.
