- Teaching methods
- The course includes lectures and practice with focus on comparison of the means of expression in Czech and Latin of the Classical Period with special attention paid to the use of phraseology. Regular weekly work at home consisting of translation from Czech to Latin is expected. Each student must present a paper dealing with the specific literary style of one chosen Latin author. Students have to read scholarly literature and analyze selected texts.
- Assessment methods
- To gain the colloquium, students must actively participate in the class and hand in semestral homework. A written test focused on Latin phraseology and translation of a short text into Latin takes place at the end of the course. Students are also required to identify and describe pragamtic devices used in a selected passage. Besides that, students have to prepare and carry out a paper dealing with a particular stylistic aspect of Latin. Topics are assigned by the lecturer. The presentation must be handed in in writing.
