- Course objectives
- The subjects An Overview of Russian Literature I and II introduce the basic courses of Russian literary history. They aim to give a general overview of Russian literature and culture from historical background. They will provide the students with key authors, works, currents, movements, and groups in a chronological sequence that characterize Russian culture and literature from the oldest times up to now (accentuating the 19–21-century literature), in connection to the social and political development of Russia. The meaning of the courses is not only a necessary factual account, but, above all, the knowledge of the social and aesthetic significance of Russian literature and its crucial texts for world literature, culture, and the cultivation of man and his world. The courses include independent reading.
- Learning outcomes
- After finishing the course, the student will be able:
- to identify and to sum up the significant features of the key periods of Russian cultural and historical as well as literary development;
- to determine the key figures, works, and artifacts of Russian literature;
- to name and to characterize the key events, currents, and streams in Russian literature;
- to explain the connection of the social and political changes in Russian and Russian culture and literature. - Syllabus
