- Course objectives
- The course is designed as a short-term intensive block course of the "Blended Intensive Programme" (BIP) type, focusing on Spanish dictionaries written or produced during the 18th century. The aim of the course is to present these works in the overall socio-cultural context of their time. During the course, the student will not only learn to read and interpret the structures of the dictionaries studied, but will also learn to perceive them in the context of their time. After completing the course, the student should be able to extract the maximum information about the level of development of Spanish in the period and how the social development of the time was reflected in the dictionary in question.
- Learning outcomes
- Upon completion of the course the student will be able to:
- adequately interpret the different types of information that 18th century dictionaries offered to their contemporary users
- identify information leading to an understanding of the functioning of social norms in 18th century Spanish-speaking societies
- identify the relevant sociolinguistic and pragmalinguistic information contained in these works
- to understand the rules of development of Spanish vocabulary and the tendencies that conditioned their inclusion in the dictionaries of the time
- understand the context of the development of modern Spanish in the 18th century - Syllabus
