Course objectives
The aim of this course is to make students acquainted with the backgrounds of syntax. Students should be able to define basic terms of Spanish syntax and analyze particular texts and exercises, they should be able to apply these terms and deduce from the observed phenomena the proper conclusions. At the end of this course, students will be able to deduce and explain the rules of basic syntactic phenomena and identify the deviations from the standard. They will be able to justify and bring serious arguments to support their thesis. Eventually, they will be able to propose a solution according to the standard.
Learning outcomes
At the end of this course the students will be able to define the basic concepts of the Spanish syntax and to perform a sentence analysis of authentic texts using the Spanish method of analysis.

Teaching methods
Lectures, definitions of basic terms of syntax and their exemplification on Spanish texts. Application of theoretical knowledge on authentic texts. During the analysis of Spanish texts from syntactic point of view students show their ability to interconnect on their own their theoretical knowledge and practical analysis of specific texts.
Assessment methods
Final exam (min. 70%). Active participation. Attendance is not compulsory. Homework.
