Course objectives
The aim of the course is to familiarize students with the basic theoretical and practical aspects of the translation process. The course combines classes and individual work with the aim of providing students with a propedeutic introduction to translation studies.
Learning outcomes
Students are aware of relevant secondary bibliography, they are familiar with basic concepts in applied linguistics, and they are able to make a proper use of them in practice. They receive general knowledge and skills, that are necessary for the further development in the follow-up study.

  • An introduction to the history of translation theory.
  • Translatology as an independent discipline. Basic concepts and issues.
  • Basics of textual analysis.
  • Translation strategies. Methods, procedures, principles of translation. Errors in translations.
  • Translator and his competences, types of translation, translation as a product.
  • Technology in translation. CAT tools.
  • Practical exercises.
