Course objectives
"Family Novel" The course aims to explore the category of the family novel with the goal of defining its structures, themes, and forms. Its evolution and its relationship with the features of memoirs, autobiography, and historical documents will be examined to highlight the connection these novels establish between collective history and the private sphere. The selected theses will be: De Roberto, I Viceré Moravia, Gli indifferenti Ginzburg, Lessico Familiare Tabucchi, Piazza d'Italia Raimo, Niente di vero Tuena, Le variazioni Reinach
Learning outcomes
Students will become familiar with different forms of modern and contemporary novels. The course aims to provide students with an introduction to the literary history of 20th and 21st century Italian literature.

  • Students will receive handouts with the texts to be read
Teaching methods
The course will be taught in Italian; excerpts from the selected novels will be read. Students will receive weekly assignments and will be required to actively participate in class discussions.
Assessment methods
Written exam on a topic previously agreed upon with the instructor. Active participation in seminar class discussions: collective text analysis; presentations.
