Course objectives
The objective of the lecture is to provide a consistent basic overview of existing or potential threats to the environement and of environmental protection from the global perspective as well as with regard to the situation in the Czech Republic. The focus is on the interconnection of basic scientific data and information on the current state, problems and developments in politics, legislation, and technology.
Syllabus
  • History of environmental protection; development of the human population and consumption of resources; air protection, the ozone hole,global climate change; water protection (water as a resource, pollution of of surface and ground waters, waste water treatment), soil protection and the impact of agriculture and forestry on the environment (soil as a resource, erosion, melioration, fertilization, soil contamination and remediation); (solid) waste management (waste handling, minimization, recycling, cleaner production, life cycle analyses); the impact of energetics; the impact of transportation; environmental protection tools (Environmental Impact Assessment, Risk Analysis, Environmental Audit, Due Diligence Assessment, Environmental Management Systems); Czech Environemental Authorities; Czech environmental legislation.
