- Course objectives
- At the end of this course students should be able to: - understand principles and applications of modern methodologies of analytical cytometry such is flow cytometry, sorting, fluorescent imaging techniques; - understand basic principles of data analysis, their interpretation and presentation.
- Learning outcomes
- The student will learn detail principles of flow cytometry and image analysis including practical applications of these methodologies.
- Syllabus
- *Flow cytometry general introduction - basic principles and history *Principles of flow cytometry and sorting -fluorescence -excitation sources, optical systems and detection of fluorescence -signal processing and compensation -data visualization, analysis and presentation * Biological application of flow cytometry -cell biology (nucleic acid analysis, cell function analysis, principles and application of multiparametric methods) -cytogenetics -hydrobiology, Flow cytometric methods in cell death analysis * Application of flow cytometry in clinical immunology and hematology. Basic principles of the image analysis.

- Teaching methods
- The lectures and discussions of the specialist with students are two most important parts of the course. The students will learn the principles of individual methodologies, and basic principles of data analysis. Practical demonstration of the instruments and equipments for flow cytometry and digital microscopy at the Institute of Biophysics in Brno is also included within the course.
- Assessment methods
- Course consists of lectures and two practical seminars. Every student will present short seminar. Form of exam is written test.
