- Syllabus
- Colloid systems: classification, behavior, properties. Hydrophilic and hydrophobic surfaces, phase colloids, molecular colloids. Formation of colloids: condensation and desintegration processes, origin and role of supersaturation, nucleation, formation of solids, kinetic factors. Stability of colloid system: thermodynamics of surfaces, stabilisation of colloids by surface charge and by polymers. Electric double-layer, influence of ionic strenght. Modeling of stability of colloid particles: repulsion and atractive forces, curves of potential energy, potential barrier, primary and secondary minima. Polymerization of alumina and silica in solutions: monomers, polymers, growing of particles, supersaturation, modeling. Transport of colloids: transport by water, transport in pore media. Role of colloids at supergene processes: origin of sediments, clay minerals and soils. Role of colloids in environment: surface sorption, carriers and scavengers of polutants. Role of colloids in hydrothermal processes: colloid behavior at higher temperatures. Methods of study of colloid systems: without separation, under separation of colloid particles. Ultrafiltration, gel-filtration, gel-chromatography. Ultrafilters, membranes, chromatographic gels, column chromatography.
