- Course objectives
- The discipline is devoted to students of physics teaching. The main goals is to introduce students into problems and methods of electricity and magnetism on the university course level. All lecture is based on set of demonstration experiments and needs only basic calculus.
- Syllabus
- 1.Electrostatics (electrostatics attract and repulsion, Braun and Leaf electroscope, triboelectricity, principle of function of Van De Graaff generator , Wimshurst generator, electric wind, charge distribution on a conductor, discharge to various radii, electric field lines, hollow conducting sphere, field lines for two nearby charge, Faraday cage, parallel plate capacitor, dissectible Leyden jar, ionization of air, electric mill, energy stored in an capacitor). 2.Electric current, magnetic field (current in metal and semiconductor, magnetic field, magnetic field around a straight wire, magnetic field around shaped wire, force between two adjacent parallel current-carrying wires, force on a current-carrying wire in a magnetic field, Barlow's disc), 3.Magnetism (natural magnetism of lodestone, paramagnetic, feromagnetic and diamagnetic materials, FeBNd and CoSm magnets, magnet application). 4. Electromagnetics induction (Fraday's experiment on induction, Lenz's law, eddy current, Waltenhofen pendulum, magnet levitation above spinning copper disc, magnet on the copper plate, Rhumkorff induction coil, mutual induction, demountable transformers, demountable transformer welder, inductor delaying a lamp, energy stored in inductor)5.Electric motor (synchronous and asynchronous motor, brush type motor, brush type permanent magnet motor, linear motors, electromagnetic gun, Barlow`s disk)
