- Course objectives
- Methods of metabolic studies - general outline. Utilization of stable and radioactive isotopes for metabolic studies. Structure of the atom, types of radioactive radiation, types of nuclear transformation (natural and artificial), main isotopes used. Methods for manipulation with radioactive isotopes, hygienic protection. Preparation of isotopes and labelled compounds. Radioactivity measurement (in various types of radiation). Use of RIA isotopes for studies of organ functions. Monitoring of biological volumes and metabolic reserves. Methods for radioimmunoassay (RIA) and other in vitro methods. In vivo methods for study of metabolic processes. Conclusions.
