- Course objectives
- The lecture is focused on: cells and organs of the immune system, mechanisms of nonspecific immunity (inflammation, complement, phagocytes), antigens (structure, chemical properties, classification, presentation), antibodies (structure, chemical properties, functions, classes of antibodies, isotypes, allotypes, idiotypes), major histocompatibility complex, reactions of the antigens and antibodies, immunoregulation (cytokines, surface molecules), mechanisms of antiinfection immunity, basic knowledge in immunopathology and immunotoxicology including transplantation and cancer immunology.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction to immunobiology. 2.Cells and organs of the immunity - ontogenesis, phenotype, structure, function and activacion, signals receptors: 3.Immune response: antigens, structure, chemical properties, classification, presentation MHC structure, function, regulation, immunogenetics: genes displacement, polymorphism, genesis of diversity Antibodies: structure, chemical properties, functions, classes of antibodies, isotypes, allotypes, idiotypes T-cell receptors: structure, function and antigen binding, interaction of receptors with ligands: adhesive molecules, complement receptors, Fc receptors, transfer of signals Nonspecific immunity: complement: structure and function, accute phasis reactans, inflammation Phagocytosis: phases, cooperation of the phagocytosis with other components of the immune system 4.The mechanism of the hypersensitivity: IgE mediated / early and late response; IgG, IgA and IgM mediated; immune complexes mediated; cell mediated. 5. Cytokines and immunomodulators: cytokines: properties, origin, structure, effect, receptor-place of effect, metabolism, regulation and gene activation. Inflammatory mediators: origin, structure, effect, receptor-place of effect, metabolism and regulation 6.Immunoregulation: toleration, clonal selection, inhibition, antigenic paralytic intracellular - interaction: help and inhibition (suppresion). Idiotype network: inhibition and stimulation. Mechanisms of auto-immunity 7. Antiinfection immunity: immunity against viruses, bacteria, fungi, parasites. 8. Failures of host defence mechanisms, primary and secondary immunodeficiencies. 9. Immunity and cancer, transplantation immunology, immunotoxicology 10.Immunomodulation 11. Methods used in immunology.
