- Course objectives
- Subject gives the information about development of ceramics in Moravian and Silesian region in historical ages. It gives the instructions for study of ceramics and presents the main and contemporary typical features for distinguishing of its different types.
- Syllabus
- The main archeological classification Ceramics in paleolith ((early paleolith - -27 000 to -16 000), first occurrence of ceramic products - the technique of firing, used material, way of use, the main places of occurrence), neolith (-5 500 to - 3 500), eneolith (-3 500 to -3 000)
- Ceramics in bronze and Hallstatt ages Ceramics in late and midle bronze ages (-2 000 to -1 400)
- Cearmics in urnfield period (early and late bronze ages -1 400 to - 750)
- Ceramics in Hallstatt ages (older iron ages - 750 to -450)
- Ceramics in La Téne and Roman periods and in the period of migration of nations
- Ceramics of ringwalls (568 to 1250)
- Ceramics of middle ages (1250 to 1492)
- Ceramics of modern times (1492 to presence) Archeological part of the course is followed by mineralogical and petrografic study.
- Exact research of historical ceramics, methods of research, material composition (raw materials - basic definitions - ostřivo and binder), granulation, temperature of firing and mineralogical possibilities of its determination, microstructure of ceramic potsherd,
- character of binders, associations of minerals and rocks in ostřivo, their relation to the provenance, manifestation of thermal affliction in ceramic potsherd, thinking about the nature of initial ceramic raw material,
- surface treatment: decoration, engobas, glazing - differences between them.
- Newly produced microstructures, newly produced minerals, identification of thermal changes of relict minerals, secondary minerals formed in potsherd during its long time deposition in the ground.
