Course objectives
The seminar is intended as an organized discussion on selected topics of high school physics. Its essential part is students' independent preparation; individual seminar lessons are devoted to students performances on selected topics. The performance involves the elementary treatment of the problem aimed at high school pupils. Each performance is followed by the critical discussion.
The main objective of the course is the development of pedagogical abilities of students.
Syllabus
  • 1. Mechanics (kinematics and dynamics of mass point; laws of motion, reference systems; gravitational field; mechanical work and mechanical energy; mechanics of a rigid body; mechanics of liquids and gases).
  • 2. Fundamentals of Special Theory of Relativity (basic ideas and results of Special Relativity; relativity of simultaneity; time dilation; length contraction; fundamental concepts of relativistic dynamics; relation between mass and energy).
  • 3. Oscillations and waves (characteristics of oscilations; origin and characteristics of waves; wave spreading; interface phenomena; mechanical oscillations; sound; electromagnetic waves).
  • 4. Electricity and magnetism (electrostatic field; electrical current in metals, Ohm law, Kirchhoff laws; electrical current in semiconductors, electrolytes, gases and vacuum; stationary magnetic field; non-stationary magnetic field; alternating current).
