- Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is also offered to the students of the fields other than those the course is directly associated with.
- fields of study / plans the course is directly associated with
- Molecular Biology and Genetics (programme PřF, M-BI)
- Molecular Biology and Genetics (programme PřF, N-BI)
- Course objectives
- The aim of this course is to provide students a molecular-genetic insight into selected areas of human genetics. At the end of this course, students should be able to describe the structure of the human genome and apply the principles of methods used in its analysis. They should also understand the Human Genome Project (HGP) and interpret the use of information gained under HGP framework. They should also compose molecular aspects of human evolution and understand molecular principles of genetic diseases in human (monogenic and polygenic), as well as formulate the priciples of human pharmacogenetics, gene therapy and forenzic genetics.
- Syllabus
- Structure and expresion of human genome. Multigene families and repetitive DNA. Polymorphism in human DNA; detection and screening of mutation in human genome. Gene identification and isolation methods. Molecular aspects of human evolution. Human Genome Project, history and principles of human genome mapping. Somatic mutations and cancer. Molecular pathology. Complex diseases. Pharmacogenetics. Gene therapy. Forensic genetics.
