- Prerequisites (in Czech)
- F6030 Quantum mechanics
Základy kvantové mechaniky, termodynamiky a statistické fyziky. - Course Enrolment Limitations
- The course is offered to students of any study field.
- Course objectives
- The subject which is a follow-up of theoretical courses of Quantum mechanics and Thermodynamics and statistical physics uses their approach for the description of the many particles systems namely solid state. Lecture starts with theoretical topics and moves towards contemporary technical applications. A graduate understand and is able to explain a general topics in a solid state structure, mechanical, thermal, electrical, magnetic and optical properties and their theoretical description. Moreover, a graduate is well-oriented in the elements of selected practical applications, namely in semiconductor technology.
- Syllabus
- 1. Introduction, gases, liquids and solids. 2. Structure of solid states, symetry, crystallography, structural analysis. Polycrystals, singlecrystals, quasicrystals amorphous solids and fullerenes. Defects of crystal lattice, mechanical properties of solids. 3. Chemical bonds in solids, attraction and repulsive forces. 4. Vibrationbs of crystal lattice, phonons, heat capacity and thermal expansion. 5. Theory of free electrons, electron contribution to heat capacity of metals, thermoemission. 6. Band theory, conductors, semiconductors and insulators, P-N junction, diode and transistor. 7. Dielectric properties, polarisation in constant and alternating electric field. Magnetic properties, diamagnetism, paramagnetism, ferromagnetism.
