Course objectives
At the end of this course, students should be able to: understand and be able to explain main features of the geological structure of continents, main Proterozoic and Phanerozoic orogenies.
Syllabus
  • The principles and terminology of the regional geology. The main types of the Earths crust, Lithospheric plates, Cyclicity in the development of the Earth. Evolution and division of the oceanic crust: morphological units and geology of the sea bottom. Introduction to the geology of the present oceans and seas: the Pacific, Atlantic, Indian and Arctic oceans, Carribean sea, Mediterranean sea, the Gulf of Mexico and Red sea.
