Course objectives
Main objectives can be summarized as follows: to provide an overview of models and theories of settlement system development; to introduce the methods and techniques of inter-urban linkages analysis; to depict actual processes shaping contemporary settlement system at national and European scale.
Syllabus
  • 1. Static theories and settlement systems models;
  • 2. Dynamic theories and settlement systems models;
  • 3. General aspects of socio-demographic systems dvelopment (M. Hampl);
  • 4. Global settlement system/system of global cities;
  • 5. Trajectories of European settlement system development;
  • 6. European urban development - contemporary analyses;
  • 7. Polycentric settlement systems.

Teaching methods - lectures, class discussion, homeworks, reading, group projects.
