Course objectives
At the end of the course students should be able to give overview of technologies, which can be used on PC for control of physical experiment. They should be able to explain their principle and main differences among them. They will be aware of terminology, which they will apply in search for suitable laboratory equipment. They will be able to write simple programs for physical measurement and experiment control (communication with multimeters, measurement cards and modules, laboratory power sources etc.).
Syllabus
  • Introduction to measurement automation.
  • Detectors of physical quantities, industrial sensors.
  • A/D and D/A convertors, multiplexers.
  • Interfaces for connecting of measurement instruments (serial and parallel ports, GPIB, USB)
  • Modern mesurement devices, measurement modules, school systems
  • Implementation of algorithms for experiment control, multithread applications.
  • Event-driven programming in Borland Delphi, graphical programming in LabView.
  • Developing programs for instrument control (multimeters Metex, HP, USB modules National Instruments).
