- Course objectives
- The main objective of the course is to enhance analytical skills of students and their capacity to apply different methods to solution of concrete practical issues. At the end of the course the students will be able to solve different problems by application of advanced statistical methods (such as multiple regression, factor, cluster), methods of demographic projections, and methods of stategic documents preparation.
- Syllabus
- Topics of lectures: 1. Changing approaches to doing research in human geography.
- 2. Demographic projection methods 1 (cohort-component method).
- 3. Demographic projection methods 2 (other methods).
- 4. Discriminant analysis and its application in human geography.
- 5. Cluster analysis and its application in human geography.
- 6. Factor analysis and its application in human geography.
- 7. Introduction to analysis of large data sets in human geography.
- 8. Regional HDP, analysis of labor market development.
- 9. Assessment of employment structure, specialization, diverzification.
- 10. Methods of preparation and negotiation of strategic programming documents for bodies on various hierarchical level of goverment.
- 11. Regression analysis and examples of its application in social and electoral geography. 12. Geographical perception and examples of application of spatial preferences maps in prognosing migration trends.
