- Course objectives
- At the end of the course students should be able to:
- understand the environemntal impact of anthropogennic technologies
- describe the main types of technologies which affect the environment
- understand the main technological principles for the providing of clean air, water tretment and purification, waste disposal
- characterize and discuss the principles of the best available techniques and best environemntal practices and also to the disposal of the persistent substances and waste with their contents
- know the methods applicable for the remediation of contaminated soils and sediments - Syllabus
- Anthropogenic environmental activities – definition, risks.
- Main types of technologies with negative environmental effects.
- Electric power plants – main types, present state and alternatives.
- Incinerators.
- Chemical industry. Petrochemical industry.
- Ferrous and non-ferrous metalurgy, production of coke.
- Forestry products industry, pulp and paper industry.
- Food and animal processing industries.
- Traffic.
- Agriculture.
- Waste gas purification – desulfurication, denitrification, dust separation.
- Water treatment – mechanical, chemical, biological, technological processes, sewage sludge.
- Wastes – types, evaluation, toxicity, methods of disposal.
- Disposal of persistent substances and wastes with their contents.
