- Course objectives
- At the end of the course, students should be able to:
- understand and explain concept of sustainable development as a strategy of development of post-modern society, including indicators of sustainability and factual applications in political and legal environment EU and Czech Rep.
- interpret the approaches of cleaner production and their scientific technical, technological, economic, legal, and governing tools
- submit reasonable recommendations how to implement concept of SD and where are the limits of the enforcement at global, national, regional and local scale - Syllabus
- 1) Global social and environmental issues, evolution of the economy and the environment
- 2) All the aspects of the sustainable development (SD) concept
- 3) Indicators of sustainability
- 4) Important international documents; international obligations of the Czech Rep.
- 5) National environmental policy of the Czech Rep. and its development
- 6) Environmental policy of EU a OECD.
- 7) Principles and the structure of Czech environmental legislation
- 8) Local Agenda 21
- 9) Principles and strategy of cleaner production
- 10) Examples of cleaner production introduction in various industrial sectors.
- 11) Environmental management of companies and the tools
- 12) Economical and legal tools of cleaner production
- 13) Trip to "eco-village" Hostětín. Date will be set based on agreement with students.

- Teaching methods
- Education is performed as lectures with Powerpoint presentation. Students are encouraged to ask questions and to interact with the lecturer. Part of the education is also scientific tour to "eco-village" Hostětín.
- Assessment methods
- Attendance of the lectures is not mandatory but strongly recommended for full understanding of the educated subjects. For this reason, attendance is graded by points. Final assessment (at the end of semester) is by written examination. It is combination of multiple choice test and questions, which frequently require description, explanation or schematization of asked topic. Each question is for four points. Total count is 100 and to pass at least 50 points are needed. If the student don't agree with the result of the test, there is possibility to pass additional oral exam.
