Course objectives
Diversity of helminths, morphological, biological, physiological-biochemical and ethological adaptations, structure and function of organ systems,developmental and life cycles, asexual and sexual reproduction, stragegy for transmission, ecology of helminths, parasite-host interactions, phylogenesis and classification, main groups of helminths:Trematoda, Monogenea, Cestoda, Acanthocephala, Nematoda: characteristics, morphology, development, diseases, importance.

  • Characteristic of helminths, methods of study, general terminology Adaptations: morphological, biological, physiological-biochemical and ethological Attachment organs and tegumentary structures Body cavity and internal organs, neurobiology and musculature Digestive tract and excretory systems Reproductive systems - morphology and functions Types of developmental and life cycles Ecology of helminths - basic princips and terminology Molecular and biochemical interactions Phylogeny and classification Characteristic of main groups: Trematoda Monogenea Cestoda Acanthocephala Nematoda Pentastomida Miscellanea Recommended literature: Horák P., Scholz T.: Biologie helmintů (skriptum), Karolinum, 1998.
