Information dealing with possible surface protection.
Syllabus
  • SURFACE TREATMENTS AS PART OF THE QUALITY SYSTEM Relationship of quality materials, finishes and environmental degradation, the quality of products, resistance of products against environmental influences THE DEGRADATION OF MATERIALS DUE TO ENVIRONMENT The system degradation, components of the system, types of degradation processes (corrosion of metals, corrosion of plastic materials, rusting, aging, degradation, rot) Fundamental factors of degradation processes (factors of material, factors of construction, environmental factors, influence of biotic pests, the time factor) Phenomenal forms of degradation of materials, uniform forms, local forms BASIC SURFACE TREATMENTS OF MATERIALS Types and function of surface treatments of materials, choice finishes, pre-treatment of materials (mechanical treatments, chemical and electrochemical treatments) Inorganic surface treatments (phosphate treatments, chemical and electrochemical oxidation, silicate surface treatments, passivation, modifications of rust, chemical colouration) METAL, ALLOY AND COMPOSITE COATINGS Basics of manufacture and function of coatings ORGANIC COATINGS (PAINT SYSTEMS) Distribution and labelling of paints and paint systems Paint systems for wood and metals Powder coatings Making of coatings from solvent-based paints, removal of paint Enamels Filling, impregnation and preservation TREATMENT OF DEPRECIATING ENVIRONMENTS Inhibition of corrosion processes Destimulation of depreciating environments Recommended literature: Jaromír Tulka, SURFACE TREATMENTS OF MATERIALS, skript FCH VUT, Brno, 2005
