- Course objectives
- This course offers three chapters oriented towards: 1. Classical and modern colloid chemistry focusing on ●Definition, classification and critical parameters, ●Aggregation and coagulation stability, ●Thermodynamics and kinetics of colloid formation; ●Nucleation and Growth models in liquid media, ●Optical properties of nanocolloidal semiconductors and metals along with an ●Overview of analytical methods employed in nanoparticle research. 2. Sol-Gel chemistry focusing on ●Molecular Precursors and their preparations, ●Synthesis strategies of oxide based ceramics, glasses and organosiloxane hybrids, ●Film formation processes and ●Photolithographic patterning methods; 3. Wet chemical nanoparticle synthesis focusing on ●binary and ternary metal oxides (M: Zn, Ti, W, Si, Fe etc), ●metal chalcogenides and oxynitrides (M: Zn, Cd, In, Ga, Ge, Ti etc; Anions: S, Se, Te, OxNy) and ●metallic/bimetallic nanocolloids (Au, Ag, Cu, Pd, Pt etc)

- 1. Definition, classification and critical parameters of colloids 2. Aggregation and coagulation stability 3. Thermodynamics and kinetics of colloid formation 4. Mechanistic aspects of colloid growth 5. Basic optical properties of semiconductor and metal nanoparticles 6. Spectroscopic and electrochemical analytical methods in nanoparticle research 7. Molecular precursors for sol-gel condensation processes 8. Henry-Livage Model 9. Inorganic-organic hybrids 10. Film formation processes and micro/nano-patterning strategies 11. Overview of preparation methods in inorganic nanoparticle research 12. Metal oxides: doping, size- and shape control approaches 13. II-VI and III-V semiconductor colloids: fluorescence activation strategies 14. Synthesis of metallic and bimetallic nanocolloids of various sizes and shapes
