- Course objectives
- At the end of this course the student will be able to:
understand and explain the basic concepts and values in UHV/XHV vacuum system;
determine the appropriate type of flowmeter;
distinguish basic types of sorption pumps;
design parameters and calculate simple UHV/XHV vacuum system. - Syllabus
- 1. Introduction: general characterisation of bonded gases, sorption and desorption, materials used in vacuum technology
- 2. Gases adsorbed on surfaces: interaction in gases, adsorption, desorption, evaporation and condensation
- 3. Gases in solid materials: gas solubility in solid materials, gas diffusion in solid materials, gas permeability through walls, gas flow in solid materials
- 4. Sorption pumps: cryopumps, zeolit pumps, sublimation and ion pumps
- 5. Measurement of gas flow: method of increased pressure, mechanical flowmeters, electronic flowcontrollers
